What exactly is BPA?
BPA is an acronym that stands for bisphenol A. According to the Mayo Clinic, Bisphenol A, or BPA, is "an industrial chemical that has been used to make certain plastics and resins since the 1960s."
What is BPA used for?
BPA is found can be found in many plastics that are used to store food or liquid. Epoxy resins, which also contain BPA, are used to line metals like canned foods.
Is BPA bad for my health?
Referencing the Mayo clinic's article, "Some research has shown that BPA can seep into food or beverages from containers that are made with BPA. Exposure to BPA is a concern because of possible health effects of BPA on the brain, behavior and prostate gland of fetuses, infants, and children. Additional research suggests a possible link between BPA and increased blood pressure."
How can I be sure to avoid BPA?
The most effective way to be sure you're avoiding BPA is to use plastics that have been marked "BPA-free." Most often you'll find this indicated on the bottom of water bottles, food storage containers, and other commonly used plastics.
